Different Ways To Workout At Home

Home workouts come in all different forms and the beauty of working out at home is that you can do what you want when you want. There is no que for any exercise stations, there is no opening and closing times and there is no one there to make you feel intimidated.

A workout can come in many different forms and for some a walk to the store and back is enough of a workout. My idea of a workout is a 45minute session training with dumbbells and a few quick cardio sessions per week.


Some of the most popular ways to workout at home include:

  • Going for a walk or run
  • Body weight exercises
  • Weight Lifting
  • Aerobics DVD
  • Resistance Bands
  • Wii Fit (ok maybe not)


Going For A Walk Or Run

Going for a walk or run will cost you nothing, except for a pair of trainers which most people have. A leisurely stroll or job is not only good for your body but also good for your mind. You can let your mind wonder as you jog and de stress.


If you have a large garden or have access to large flat surface such as a field then you can do shuttle runs. Sprint as fat as you can for 20seconds then walk back to the start and repeat 5-10times. This is a great way to speed up fat loss in half the time.

 

Body Weight Exercises

You can get a great workout by just using your bodies own resistance. Exercises such as push ups, pull ups, dips and squats are some of the best mass builders and they do not require any weights or machines to do them.

Other body weight exercises such as high knees, mountain climbers and jump squats really get your heart racing. You can combine 3-6 body weight exercises into a circuit and do 10 reps or each without rest. Then rest 30 seconds and repeat. If this is easy then add more reps to each exercise. Another variation of this would be to do 10seconds of each exercise completing as many reps as possible in that time. This is one of the best ways to workout at home.

 

Weight Lifting

For a weight lifting home workout you do not need any fancy machines. A set of dumbbells and a bench will provide you with almost unlimited number of exercises.

You can expand your home gym buy adding to your weight collection or buying different bars such as barbells, ez bars and triceps bars. Weight lifting is great for fat burning and muscle building.

Dumbbell Home Workouts

 

Aerobics DVD

One of the best ways to workout at home for fat burning. Simply put in the DVD, clear a floor space, press play and follow what you see. I have followed a few aerobics DVD and i find them to be good workouts providing you put in 100%. I am a fan of Tae Bo Workouts which you can do with minimal space and time.

 

Resistance Bands

These can add resistance to body weight exercises and could assist in the toning process. I do own a set of resistance bands and sometimes use them for variety within my resistance training.

 

Kettle bells

These are a fixed usually cast iron weight with a handle. Kettle bells are becoming increasingly popular with fitness enthusiasts. You can get a great cardio and strength building working from kettle bell exercises, particularly circuit training.

There are plenty more home workouts out there you can choose from and you are not set to follow one particular program. Changing your routine regularly and keeping your body guessing is not only a great way to stay motivated but also will yield far better results as your body is less likely to get bored.


You should have no excuses when it comes to training at home, everyone can find a bit of space and a spare 20minutes in the day to train.
