Home Spinning Workouts

Spinning is a name given to an aerobic cycling workout that are often done at most fitness centers however you could do them at home as well.

The workouts are usually to music and are upbeat and lead by an instructor..

The bikes used in a spinning class look more like ordinary bikes then an exercise bike.


The actual workout usually ranges from 30minutes to an hour and is very intense. Spinning is great for building up your fitness levels and burning away fat.


The resistance of the spinning bike is usually controlled by a knob at the front of the bike, and the instructor usually tells you what level to have it on to replicate hills etc.


The workout usually starts with a slow passed warm up to get the heart and blood pumping. This warm up quickly gets faster and faster and the pace rapidly goes up.


A common method used in spinning workouts is interval training. This is where you alternate between high and low intensity for given time periods. It is a very effective way at improving your cardiovascular fitness and burning fat.


Because of the pedaling action spinning is great for toning the entire leg muscles giving you that slender well defined look.


The below video gives a demonstration of a spin class, it features the warm up and you can see the intensity of the workout increasing throughout the video.

If you are going to use spinning as your sole workout then you should aim to do around 3 sessions per week with at least 1 days rest in between your workouts.  


If you want to add spinning to your home workouts then you can get a bike from most fitness stores or online. Again you can get many DVD's online where just like aerobic DVD 's you follow the instructor on your TV.

 


You should wear comfortable clothing for spinning. The seats are normally gel and more comfortable then regular exercise bikes however you can get padded pants should you wish to use them.


Most spinning bikes have a water bottle holder which you should make use of as you will want to stay hydrated through this demanding workout.
