Six Pack Abs Workout

Getting that sought after 6 pack abs is usually on most peoples fitness agenda. Unfortunately for some reason most peoples ideas about abdominal training is misguided.

Doing thousands on sit ups and crunches is not the route you should be following if you are serious about getting six pack abs.


If you are serious about getting ripped abdominal's then you need to prioritize your workouts in order for this to happen. Unless your body fat percentage is low, no matter how many abdominal workouts you do, your six pack will be masked by that unwanted layer of fat.


Burning Away Body Fat

This should be your number 1 goal. Forget doing silly ab exercises, if your body fat is not lower then around 14% that i wouldn't even bother training the abdominal's directly.

You should concentrate on lowering your body fat before starting any abdominal focused training routines. This is done through high intensity full body fat burning workouts.


The best workouts for this is something i like to call metabolic workouts. This is where you basically move from exercise to exercise building up oxygen deprivation making your body burn more fat.


The best way to do this is through either weight training circuits or bodyweight workouts.


More muscle will mean an increase in your bodies metabolism. This increase will lead to a fat burning effect. So in order to burn more fat you need to build more muscle.

 

Cardio Is Not The ONLY Answer

Putting your body under stress through resistance training will lead to a greater fat burning effect, and after a heavy weight training workout your body will still be working internally to recover from your workouts meaning that it will be in fat burning mode for longer.


The problem is that we have been raised to believe that cardio workouts are the way to go if you want to burn fat. The problem with long slow cardio sessions is that your body quickly gets used to them meaning that after a few short weeks the fat burning effect from these workouts starts to go unless you train for longer.


Your goal is to maximize the 24hour period in the day and burn as many calories as possible each day. The problem with cardio is that your body only burns calories as you are working out so there is no 'after burn' effect. This means that the other 23hrs you workout in the day are wasted, as your body will only be burning calories during your cardio workout.


With a weight training or bodyweight workout your body will burn fat for longer.

Abdominal Isolation Workouts

Once your body fat is low then you should add abdominal focused workouts into your training routine. Your abs are like other muscles and require rest in order to grow and build muscle, this means that you should not train them everyday.


If you build to much abdominal muscle then your abs will look really big and you will get that pot belly pig look that you see most modern bodybuilders with.


Your six pack abs workout should be balanced and focused on the entire core region of your body and not just your front abdominal muscles.
