It is important to get a sufficient amount of protein in your daily diet. This does not have to be mega amounts like bodybuilders have necking shake after shake of protein drinks but enough to place your body into fat burning, muscle building mode.
Your body breaks down protein into amino acids and uses those amino acids to build up your muscles. When you exercise you are actually breaking down muscle and your body needs protein to repair and build it self back up.
What is important is that you need to have protein with every single one of your meals, because it will help you burn fat. protein releases a hormone called glucagon that does the exact opposite to insulin. So if insulin is a fat storing hormone, glucagon is a fat burning hormone.
If you eat a serving of protein with everyone of your meals you are going to get this fat burning effect. Protein is also a blood sugar stabilizer and will help you keep your energy levels at a constant throughout the day rather then the ups and downs you would get from just eating carbohydrates.
Good proteins would be things like, eggs, lean meats, nuts and protein shakes.
Your meals should consist of a portion of protein, a portion of carbs and some vegetables.
