The medicine ball is a great workout accessory and you can have a full home workout with just this single piece of equipment.

The medicine ball is on of the oldest forms of resistance training which dates back to the ancient greece times where sand filled boulders would be used.


Primarily medicine balls are used for training the abdominal / core muscles and there are hundreds of different exercises you can do with them. The workouts on this page will show you how you can use one to workout your entire body.


Medicine balls are useful for home workouts because they are relatively cheap and don't take up much space, meaning you can store them in a cupboard or under a bed and have a great workout from one piece of equipment.


When choosing a medicine ball it is important to get one that is not to heavy to begin with. This will let you practice proper technique with each of the medicine ball exercises and will help you progressively develop strength and conditioning.

Some medicine balls are solid like a soccer ball and others have handles each side. Each variation has its uses. Typically the ones with handles allow you to lift a heavier weight.


A typical cost of a medicine ball is around $30 for a 3kg one. Usually the heavier they are to more expensive they become. This all depends on the brand you choose. generally they all do the same thing.


If you are just starting out then i suggest going with a 2kg one and using that for a few weeks before increasing the weight. You can normally buy medicine balls in a set of different weights or individually.
