Home Teen Workouts For Building Muscle & Burning Fat

Finding muscle building and fat loss advice for teens can be difficult. I remember when i was about 15 or 16 i wanted to get fitter and didn't know how to go about it. I bought a muscle magazine from a local store thinking that this would give me the answers. I was wrong.

 

I ended up following a 5 day weight lifting workout and after about a week and a half i gave up as i was just sore all the time and started getting injuries.


On this page i have several workouts which are great for teens looking to build muscle and burn fat without the gym. A gym membership can be expensive and if you are a student then there are other things you can spend your money on. Don't let the fact that you cant train in a gym put you off, you can still get great results from training at home.


If you are 16 or below then personally i don't recommend training with weights as your body is still growing naturally. Instead opt for a routine made up of bodyweight exercises to help build up some foundation on your body.

Remember:

Training only makes up about 20% of what is required to build muscle or burn fat, and the rest is made up of lifestyle changes and the most important part is nutrition.

 

Having a good nutrition plan is vital no matter what your goal is. You should be aiming to eat 6 meals a day to regularly provide your body with the fuel it needs to change.

Bodyweight Home Workouts

Training with just using your body weight or limited amounts of equipment is one of the best home teen workouts you can do. Body weight workouts are underrated and most people have the impression that you need to pump iron in order to get a great body, this is not the case and you can get an excellent home workout from body weight exercises.


Home Cardio Workout

The following workout is a great circuit that you can do in little time with no equipment and only a stop watch. The idea is that you have 6 body weight exercises and you can do as many reps as you can for 15seconds of each whilst having a rest in between of 15seconds.


You would do this for all 6 exercises and then rest for a minute and then repeat the circuit a few more times. Intensity is what makes these home teen workouts effective.

Home Weight Training Workouts

When you first start out with weight lifting it is important to understand the basics. You cant just flick to the pages of flex magazine and start following the crazy routines followed by professional body builders.


You should start off with a full body workout, doing 1 exercise for each major body part. Obviously you will need access to weights for this and a simple set of dumbbells will do.


Here is an example of a simple weight training workout.


Dumbbell Chest Press

Bent Over Dumbbell Rows
Dumbbell Shoulder Press
Hammer Curls
Triceps Extensions
Dumbbell Squats
Abdominal Crunches

  • 2 sets of 12 reps for each exercise
  • Rest 30 seconds between exercises
  • Use a 311 tempo
  • 3 workouts per week eg mon, wed and fri


The idea of these home teen workouts to get your body used to the exercises. You are only 2 sets per body part so make them two hard sets. You should be lifting a weight which you can do no more then 12 reps with. By rep number 12 you should not be able to do any more.
