The below video demonstrates the exercise whilst standing. You can also do this exercise sitting at the end of a bench.

Shoulder presses can be done with dumbbells or a barbell. It is important to build strong shoulder muscles as these will help you with other exercises and also develop that sought after V shape athletic torso look.

Instructions

  1. Hold the dumbbells at shoulder height. With your elbows out to the sides, palms facing outwards.
  2. Lift the dumbbells straight up until they touch at the top.
  3. Lower the dumbbells back down to the starting position.

You will find that you are able to both raise and lower the dumbbells further then you could if you were doing this exercise with a barbell. This means you get a better stretch from the exercise and a full range of motion is worked.

You should do this exercise slowly and under control to get the maximum benefit from it.
