Building Muscle At Home:
I Did It So Can You
Sean Nalewanyj one day got sick and tired of being a 125lbs weakling and a social out cast. By purchasing a simple weights set from a department store and following a home workout routine he was able to gain a phenomenal amount of muscle in a short period of time.

How To Build Muscle At Home
A question that gets asked alot through the contact forms on this site is:
“Is joining a gym mandatory for building a strong, muscular body? "
The answer is no. You can easily begin building muscle at home with a little planning and the right equipment. (Even without equipment you can make great gains in muscle size and strength.
My first 2 years of bodybuilding were spent building muscle at home in my basement, and it went really well. Just look at the above before and after photos of what i achieved in this time.
Not everyone can afford a gym membership and joining a gym is not for everyone.
There are many reasons people choose to train at home.
Maybe a home muscle building workout is more convenient because of your busy lifestyle.
Maybe you don't feel good about your body and would prefer not to train in a regular gym setting.
I enjoy training at home for many reasons.
There was no worry about wasting time commuting to and from the gym. Whenever I wanted, I could just step downstairs and start building muscle at home as all of my equipment was right there waiting for me.
I could blast whatever music I wanted without having to worry about others.
I could grunt, yelp and scream through my sets if I was in the mood without disturbing anyone (hey, squatting to failure isn't easy okay? ) or train shirtless if I felt like it.
At the end, I could sprawl out on the floor in exhaustion, content in the knowledge that my post workout shakes were only a few steps away, and I wouldn't have to waste any time driving home.
The only downside of a home workout is that your exercise selection will not be as varied since you most likely won't have access to things like a leg press or calf machine. You can purchase certain machines if you have the money to spend and plan on building muscle at home over the long term, but for most people, this is not the most likely scenario.
Luckily, planning out a proper bodybuilding routine doesn't require the use of any fancy equipment, plus the machine exercises can easily be swapped for free-weight substitutions when doing a home workout.
When building muscle at home, here's what you need:
A cast iron set with enough weights so that you can continually progress from week to week is the best buy.
This is much a much better idea than purchasing an entire set of dumbbells. You can buy the barbell and dumbbells in a single set most of the time.
You need a sturdy bench for doing bench presses and other seated movements. Whenever possible, purchase a bench that can be inclined and remember to get one with safety catches if you want to train on your own.
You can get these for 15-20 dollars or so, and place them in the frame of your door.
A full squat rack can be pricey, so it's typically the trickiest piece of equipment to purchase. You have to find a way to get this equipment because squats are an irreplaceable movement and should always be a part of your workout, especially if you don't have a leg press machine.
If you really can't afford a squat rack then some creativity may do the trick. For safety, when building muscle at home it's critical to have some sort of apparatus that enables you to un rack a loaded bar and drop it safely if your strength gives out during the lift.
You should not be squatting if you don't have a place where you can safely drop the bar while building muscle at home! Since most full squat racks have a chin-up bar on top, you can kill two birds with one stone if you decide to get one.
There are the five pieces of basic equipment that you need to set up a home gym. You will not have to join a traditional gym to workout effectively if you equip your home gym with these tools.
