There are many ways to workout at home, and each way will produce different results and will be suited to different body types.
In my opinion the best home workouts are the ones that don't need you to spend thousands of dollars on equipment, ones that doesn't require lots of space and do not take up lots of your precious time.
Why spend hours working out when you can get a great workout in just a few minutes using nothing more then your body weight and a timer.
At the moment i am a big fan of interval training, it has taken me a while to discover this sort of training but i am glad i did.
Interval training was first introduced to me by Vince Delmonte with a great body weight workout. The principles of the workout was simple, complete 10 different body weight exercises doing as many reps as you can in 15 seconds then having 15 seconds rest before moving on to the next exercise.
After all exercises have been completed then this is one circuit finished, which should have taken 5 minutes to complete. After you have completed a few of these body weight circuits you could get a great workout in just 10-20minutes.
The key to making this type of training is the intensity you do each exercise. You should be aiming to complete as many reps as possible for each exercise and writing down your score and attempting to beat it next time.
If you put in 100% to these workouts you will get 100% results from them.
To vary the intensity of the workout then you can either:
Add more exercises
Decrease the rest period
Increase the 'work' time
Add resistance to the exercises
In the below video example the lovely Zuzana from bodyrock.tv demonstrates a slightly different variation to the above workout.
This workout is very intense and i wouldn't suggest attempting it if you have never worked out before.
As you can see for this workout you will complete it in just 12 minutes using intervals of 10seconds rest and 20seconds work time.
There are 4 exercises which make up the circuit which should be completed 6 times to make up the 12 minutes.
1. High Knees
2. Mountain Climber
3. Side Plank Jump
4. Super Girl/Man Push Up
This workout will quickly have you in buckets of sweat and you will be out of breath very quickly. Interval training provides fast results and this is one of the reasons they are one of the best at home workout you can do.
You can create your own interval circuits using a combination of different weight and non weight exercises, the shorter the rest period the higher the intensity will be.
If you are a complete beginner then you can start off with the same 'on' and 'off' time and gradually reduce this as you progress.
5 Reasons interval training is the best at home workout
You do not not any equipment
They can be done anywhere
You can use any exercise you can think of
Fast results
Short workouts leaving more time to yourself
Remember that no matter what training style you choose for your home workouts, progress is made by giving each workout 100% of your effort and being consistent. You need to be consistent with your workouts training on a regular basis without skipping training sessions. This is probably the hardest part of any home workout as there are far more distractions to avoid then there is at the gym
