Dumbbell Bent Over Laterals

This shoulder exercise is good for developing the rear of your shoulder muscles. It can be fairly tricky to do and you will find that you can lift hardly any weight.

Type
Isolation

This exercise is purely to isolate and develop the rear deltoid muscles. This is not one that i personally do on a regular basis but like to throw it into my workouts from time to time. If you are serious about bodybuilding then you will need to fully develop the rear delts for poses.

Instructions

  1. Stand with a dumbbell in each hand. Bend forwards from the waist about 45degrees letting the dumbbells hang at arms length below you.
  2. Your palms should be facing each other.
  3. Without raising your body, lift the weights out to the side turning your wrists so that the thumb ends up lower then the little finger.
  4. Lower the weights back down to the start.

It is very important that you do this exercise strictly and under control. You may even find that at first just the weight of your arms is enough resistance for you to begin with.
