Barbell Bent Over Rows

Rowing exercises are great back muscle builders and the barbell row is a classic muscle building exercise.

Primary Muscles
Back
Secondary Muscles
Biceps, Forearms
Equipment Needed
Barbell
Force
Pulling

This exercise is demonstrated in the video below. You can do this using a barbell, or ez bar. There are two types of grip people use, palms facing towards you and palms facing away.

Instructions

  1. Stand with feet hip width and knees slightly bent.

  2. Bend at hips with back straight. Holding a barbell.
  3. Pull the barbell to your chest without moving your body. Squeeze your shoulder blades together at the top of the movement.
  4. Return to start position.
Remember to keep back and head straight - hyperextension or flexion may cause injury

This is one of my favorite back exercises for my home workouts, if you don't have a barbell you could use a heavy household item such as a bag and still get the benefit of this exercise.
