Working out at home is a great way to get in shape without having to spend loads of money on gym equipment or expensive health club memberships.
You can get a great home workout from following simple bodyweight exercises and combining them into circuits or intervals.
I am a big fan of home workouts due to my busy lifestyle of trying to balance a full time job with shift work, family life and other commitments.
In my opinion the best way home exercise program is one that takes up little of your time, is intense and can provide the fast results that we are all looking for.
For me circuit training provides the best platform to base your at home exercise program on and has helped me achieve a far greater level of fitness then other styles of training such as just going out for a run.

A circuit is when you combine 2 or more exercises together and perform a certain number of reps or timed intervals for each exercise.
For example a simple home workout circuit made up of bodyweight exercises could look like this:
Push Ups
Squats
Sit Ups
Burpees
In the above example you could do 10 reps for each of the 4 exercises without resting in between. This will keep the intensity levels up and make your heart work faster. After you have completed 1 circuit you could then rest 30-90 seconds and then repeat.
An alternative to doing the workout for a certain number of reps would be to do it a certain amount of time. For example you could do each exercise for 15 seconds doing as many reps as you can in that time.

I have used the above home workout routine on many occasions and it is very intense. What makes this style of training effective is that its suited to you. You work at YOUR maximum intensity so some people maybe only able to do 5 reps whilst others could do 20. As long as you are working towards YOUR maximum you will benefit from this style of training plan.
