Example Arnold Schwarzenegger Workout Routine For Muscle Building

The following workout routine is based on training each major muscle group 2 times per week. It is a brutal workout that sees you training 6 days a week with weights.

The training programs used in the day of Arnold Schwarzenegger were very high in volume using the basic compound exercises to build large muscle groups.


The following workout was featured in Schwarzenegger's book on bodybuilding and was considered as a 'beginner workout'.


This workout is NOT for you if:

The Workout


5 Sets of 8-12 reps of each exercise unless stated otherwise in this Arnold Schwarzenegger workout routine.


Monday & Thursday - Chest - Back - Abs

Bench Press
Incline Press
Pullovers

Chin Ups (total of 50 reps)
Bent Over Rows
Deadlifts (3 sets of 10, 6, 4 reps to failure)

Leg Raises (5 sets of 25 reps)

 

Tuesday & Friday - Shoulders - Arms - Abs

Clean & Press
Dumbbell laterals

Upright Rows (3 sets of 10, 6, 4 reps to failure)
Push Press (3 sets of 10, 6, 4 reps to failure)

Barbell Curls
Seated Dumbbell Curls
Narrow Grip Bench Press
Triceps Extensions

Forearm Wrist Curls
Reverse Wrist Curls

Incline Sit Ups (5 sets of 25 reps)

 

Wednesday & Saturday - Legs - Abs

Squats
Lunges
Leg Curls

Calf Raises

Deadlifts (3 sets of 10, 6, 4 reps to failure)
Good Mornings (3 sets of 10, 6, 4 reps to failure)

Leg Raises (5 sets of 25 reps)

 

You would have to be mad to consider trying this workout. It leaves no time for recovery and mere mortals like us would simply burn out and over train.


There are many ways you can tailor this Arnold Schwarzenegger workout routine to fit your own needs and fitness levels. You could half all of the number of sets for each exercise, or a better method would be 3 workouts per week instead of 6, with 1 days rest in between. This would allow for maximum recovery time between workouts and body parts.
